Fire & Emergency Support Service Volunteer (British Red Cross)
Location Causeway area
Description The British Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service (FESS) is an exciting, rapid, response service. Working in partnership with the Fire Service, we provide practical help and emotional support to people affected by fires and other emergency incidents. As a FESS volunteer, working as part of a team, you'll provide much-needed help to people who have suddenly found themselves homeless following a fire, evacuation, industrial incident or flood. Equipped with a specially prepared vehicle, you'll support people in crisis by providing practical help and emotional support. In addition, you could be providing support to the emergency services as part of the BRC response to an incident. Typical tasks include: * Provide practical support to individuals such as shelter and refreshments, providing basic provisions and facilities, signposting to other organisations, supporting with the care of children and pets, first aid and assisting with seeking temporary accommodation. * Provide emotional support to distressed individuals * Maintain appropriate records * Attend briefings and de-briefings delivered by the team leader and the fire service * Deliver the service in line with society standards You will need to be willing to respond when on-call, including unsocial hours and you may be required to wear personal protective equipment in accordance with local arrangements. If you have a full UK driving licence, you may be asked to drive a FESS vehicle. We value the energy and enthusiasm that young people bring to this role. To carry out full delivery of this service volunteers must be 18. However (subject to a risk assessment, safeguarding requirements and parental consent) those aged 15 - 17 can be involved in a variety of activities such as promoting the service. The Centre locations are in Coleraine, Portrush and Omagh. Volunteers must not live more than 20 minutes away form their nearest Centre as they will be required to be on the scene as soon as possible once they are notified of an emergency.
