Mealtime Companion (Age Concern)
Location Ballymoney area
Description Help prepare patients for their mealtime and provide companionship during meals. - Visit flats to remind tenants that it is mealtime - Accompany tenants to the communal café or join tenants in their flat for meals to provide company - Help tenants prepare for mealtimes - hand washing/positioning/ dentures/spectacle care/hearing aid. - Provide tenants with support to eat independently e.g. cutting up food, opening packets and lids, ensuring food is within reach and ccessible. (No feeding is undertaken by volunteers – this can only be done by qualified carers.) - Encourage tenants to eat their meals to ensure their nutritional needs are met - To ensure patients dignity and independence is promoted at all times. Volunteer roles will have regulated times mainly lunch time and at dinner time (Mon – Sun). Times for this opportunity will be confirmed but presently we require someone for approx. 4hrs Tues or Weds. All volunteers will have to meet with Age Concern Causeway as part of our recruitment process. If they are suitable they will undertake a training and induction programme as delivered by the NHSCT and Age Concern Causeway. Travel and expenses will be paid by Age Concern Causeway. ACCESS NI Checks are essential. This is a partnership project with the NHSCT and volunteers will be supervised by the Brook’s care staff when on site and will be supported and managed by Age Concern Causeway. Age: 18+
