Befriending- Befriender for Older People (Brookmount Nursing Home)

Description

It is our mission at to provide quality care and services to our elders, families, and the community, reflective of dignity, compassion, support, and customer satisfaction. Our continuum of care will encompass every aspect of life, with the goal to maintain and enhance the living experience of our elders and the confidence of families and support services 

Role Description:

  • We need volunteer befrienders to talk to the residents and establish and build a befriending relationship with them.
  • It is also essential that the volunteer can establish and maintain appropriate boundaries within the befriending relationship 
  • To spend time/share activities with the older person, this could be reading the newspaper or book, or taking them for a walk inside or outside the building. 
  • Be understanding and respectful to the person they are befriending 

 What you can expect

  • Attend any staff training available i.e. child protection, Safeguarding vulnerable adults, manual handling, dementia awareness 
  • Widened circle of friends 
  •  The satisfaction of knowing that you are helping a vulnerable person in your community 
  •  Valuable experience of volunteering that you can add to your CV 

 You can claim previously agreed out of pocket travel expenses 

 Days/times required:  Flexible anytime between 10-5pm
