Arthritis Awareness Volunteer (Arthritis Care)
Location Throughout Northern Ireland
Description Overall purpose of volunteer role: To raise awareness about arthritis and the work of Arthritis Care to groups in their local area. Volunteers are given training and promotional materials to enable them to talk on behalf of Arthritis Care to groups in their local communities. Key responsibilities Each event will vary but generally we will be looking for volunteers to speak to: A wide range of people, from community groups to local companies or council committees. Occasionally Arthritis Care will contact you to tell you about someone in your area who is interested in having a speaker The talks will vary in location and timings. For example, you could be speaking at lunchtime to employees of a local company, giving an evening talk to the Women's Institute, or a presentation on a Saturday morning to parents at a kids' club. You can fit the talks into your existing commitments and decide when you are available and who you are going to be speaking to. All arthritis awareness volunteers need to attend a training day to learn more about arthritis and Arthritis Care. The training days happen regularly throughout the year, but your Volunteer Development Manager can tell you more about what training is available and when. Person Specification: Confident at working with members of the public and presenting Good communication and listening skills Ability to work as part of a team Enthusiastic and outgoing An interest in community-based health promotion work Ability to maintain confidentiality A commitment to support the work of Arthritis Care and represent Arthritis Care in a positive way A willingness to attend all briefings and trainings related to your role. Complete relevant training. Support Arthritis Care procedures and standards by: *Being aware of your own health and safety and of that of others *Respecting others and treating people equally irrespective of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race religion and belief, sex and sexual orientation (Equality Act 2010) Ensure all activities undertaken in the name of Arthritis Care achieve the charitable aims and objectives and do not bring the organisation into disrepute. Meet time commitments and standards agreed, and give reasonable notice when unavailable, so other arrangements can be made.
