Events Volunteer (Diabetes UK)
Location Throughout Northern Ireland
Description Overall purpose of volunteer role: Events volunteers help raise awareness of diabetes and Diabetes UK at events around the country. About the Northern Ireland Team The Volunteer Development Team supports all Diabetes UK volunteers around the country and develops new volunteering opportunities for the organisation. Main elements of volunteer role: The location of events range from roadshows in market squares and high streets to big events such as melas and county shows. Volunteers can also help out at conferences, sporting events and support days. Volunteers mainly attend events in their local region. Each event will vary but generally we will be looking for volunteers to:  Talk to members of the general public in a friendly and enthusiastic manner to raise awareness of diabetes and Diabetes UK  Offer appropriate Diabetes UK publications/materials  Motivate people who are at risk of diabetes to go their G.P for a diabetes test  Answer general queries and direct any medical or other specific questions to the appropriate member of staff  Encourage people with diabetes to leave their details so that we can forward them further information (And only at screening events):  Talk to those at risk of diabetes and encourage them to undergo a risk assessment on the unit  Help manage the risk assessment queue. Timescales (e.g. hours, day or length of volunteering role) We hope that you will be able to volunteer for: The timing of the events will vary. Many events will take place at weekends and will last from approximately 10am 4pm; however, we will also be looking for volunteers that can help out during the week and in the evenings. This is a very flexible volunteer role; you will have the opportunity to select which events you can attend. You can fit your volunteering round your existing commitments.  1-2 days - flexible - this can be negotiated to suit the situation. Additional hours could be negotiated on an ad hoc basis by agreement with both parties and are available if requested.  initially for a 3 month period with the opportunity for extension. It will be reviewed after 2 months. We therefore ask that should you work with confidential information you ensure that confidentiality is upheld. Intellectual Property The work you do for us is important to us and we value the rights that may exist in any work which you undertake. In some cases, it may be vital that we own and can prove we own such rights. Accordingly, we may ask you to complete, sign and return a separate assignment of such rights. The purpose of this role description is to set out the expectations of both parties. It is not the intention of either party that the volunteering has the purpose or effect of creating a legally binding contract or an employment relationship between parties.
