Health Assessor (Diabetes UK)

On the 2nd August Diabetes UK will be running their annual Health Awareness Roadshows in Coleraine Town Centre (10am-5pm) and they need volunteers to help them carry out this role. The role would involve: Talk to members of the general public in a friendly and enthusiastic manner to raise awareness about diabetes and Diabetes UK Talk to those at risk of diabetes and encourage them to undergo a risk assessment on the unit Carry out Type 2 diabetes risk assessments on members of the public at Diabetes UK events using the appropriate resources and training provided. This includes:  Measuring individual’s height, weight and waist circumference  Calculating their BMI  Taking them through the risk assessment and explaining their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes  Encouraging them to go to their GP or practice nurse to have a test for diabetes, if appropriate Offer appropriate Diabetes UK publications/materials Answer general queries and direct any medical or other specific questions to the appropriate member of staff or alternative channels e.g. Diabetes UK resources or Healthcare information Encourage people with diabetes to leave their details so that we can send them further information There will be a training day for the role on 15th July 2pm – 4pm in Belfast (all travel expenses will be covered). You can give as much time as you like at the roadshow, 1 hour plus.

There are 100,000 people living with diabetes in Northern Ireland and this number is set to continue to rise.

Health Promotion Volunteer

Do you want a fun and flexible way to volunteer? We need help at events all over the country, so if you have some time to spare, this could be the role for you.

As a health promotion volunteer, you will be working with Diabetes UK staff, talking to members of the public, raising awareness of diabetes and handing out information.

The events range from stands in shopping centres, community centres, to big events such as the Balmoral Show and Belfast Mela. You don't need any previous knowledge or experience about diabetes or Diabetes UK. We give you all of the information and support that you need.
