Exercise Support Volunteer (NI Chest Heart and Stroke)
Location Coleraine
Description

The Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke (NICHS) Post Rehabilitation Exercise Programme (PREP) is a 6 week community based post statutory rehabilitation patient education and physical activity support service for people who have had a stroke. The emphasis is supporting people, through exercise and education, to ensure they are ready to begin to take control of and self manage their own condition.

WHERE/WHEN - Coleraine – Tuesdays from 10am – 12noon at Sandel Centre, Knocklyn Road, Coleraine, BT52 1WW.

MAIN PURPOSE - To assist the co-ordinator with the Post Rehabilitation Exercise Programme.

TASKS -

  • Setting up of equipment,
  • Assist clients with light exercise, in a motivational role
  • Help with moving around the room,
  • Assist with activities,
  • Prepare and serve refreshments.

 WHAT SKILLS AND ABILITIES ARE NEEDED TO CARRY OUT THE ROLE?

  • Volunteers must have a reasonable level of fitness and mobility to assist the clients with the exercises
  • Must have the ability to take direction and carry out instructions
  • Good communication and people skills
  • Be willing to work as part of a team but also have the ability to work on own initiative
  • Flexibility and access to transport.

SUPPORT: - A briefing, support & induction programme will be provided and any identified training in relation to the role facilitated when possible.

EXPENSES - Any agreed out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed on completion of NICHS volunteer expenses forms.
