We are the UK's leading dementia charity. Every day, we work tirelessly to find new treatments and, ultimately, a cure for dementia. We provide expert information, training, and support services to all those who need our help. And we are creating a more dementia-friendly society so people with the condition can live without fear and prejudice.

Keeping in touch’ (KIT) telephone calls are an exciting new part of the Alzheimer’s Society’s offer for people living with dementia. Keeping in touch volunteers will play a key role in keeping someone who’s living with dementia connected and ensuring that their needs at met. Our volunteers provide a friendly, tailored proactive telephone based follow up service. They take a personal, warm and engaging approach to tasks and are a key aspect of on-going person centred support.


  • You will be making ‘Keeping in touch’ calls to people living with dementia.  These calls follow up with people in their dementia journey.  The calls follow the guidance from the Dementia Advisers.
  • You will be making calls using a user friendly IT system; full training and support will be provided.
  • Liaise with your manager, the Volunteer Leader and other appropriate Society colleagues.
  • Keeping up to date with knowledge of the Alzheimer’s Society policies and procedures and provide a robust volunteer service in accordance with these.
  • You will provide information, make referrals,signpost and enable customers to access the support they need in a way that's right for them.
  • Provide time limited one to one intervention and support via telephone.
  • Provide safe and enjoyable phone calls via an IT system for a person living with dementia.
  • Within this role, you could potentially volunteer alone and deliver activities as an individual, but will need to recognise that you're part of a larger team.

This role will suit you if you 

  • Are passionate about supporting people with dementia to improve their quality of their lives.
  • Believe that people should be enabled and empowered.
  • Enjoy making telephone calls and are able to follow guidance from colleagues.
  • Have good verbal communication and listening skills, especially on the phone.
  • Are a perceptive, emotionally intelligent person; able to read tone of voice and empathise.
  • Want to help people with dementia to live well.
  • Know about, or are willing to learn about dementia and its impact on people.
  • Recognise the importance of confidentiality, and show this in practice.


  • Time- We expect volunteers to offer at least around 3 hours per month.
  •  You will  receive quality training, guidance and support to develop your role.
