The Coast Office

IT Development Worker

The Coast Office is centred around traditional maritime skills and knowledge, it operates through three branches. The first branch runs mostly through the winter months and is a drop in workshop along the lines of a ‘Men’s Shed’ focusing on maritime skills/boat building. The second branch in the spring and autumn deals with maritime education encompassing maritime surveys and species studies. The third branch in the summer enables people to take part in maritime activities such as rowing, fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding and snorkelling. We welcome anyone into the Coast Office, the education arm deals mostly with children, the workshops is attracting retired/unemployed adults and the activities include all ages and genders, locals and tourists.

Role Description:

  • Design and manage a Coast Office website
  • Promote the Coast Office online
  • Train existing staff to a standard capable of maintaining the online profile

Desirable skills and experience:

  • A good knowledge of web design
  • Able to advise on social media especially Facebook
  • Able to set up an online booking/payment system
  • General aptitude in this field

Additional:

  • Day/Time required: very flexible, can suit the requirements of the volunteer
  • Location: A lot of the role could probably be done off site at a location to suit the volunteer but some work will need to be done onsite at the Portballintrae Boat Club.
  • Must be over 18 years old
