Cancer Experience Panel Member

Macmillan Cancer Support wants to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer and to inspire millions of others to do the same. There are 2.5 million people living with cancer in the UK today, and as more people live longer with their cancer this number is set to grow to 4 million by 2030. We want to make sure we can provide support to everyone who needs it, to help people affected by cancer feel more in control of their lives.

Role Description:

You'll be using your voice to represent people living with cancer in Northern Ireland to drive improvement in future services. Activities might include:

  • Attending  networking events and conferences
  • Attending focus groups to represent people living with cancer and supporting the design of new cancer services
  • Conducting basic outreach and research with community groups to better understand and represent their views
  • Using your own cancer story to help influence how we invest our resources to have the greatest impact
  • Developing the way our Cancer Experience Panel works with and shapes other engagement opportunities for people affected by cancer.

Desirable Skills:

  • Patient, flexible and reliable
  • Connections to a local community or networks of peers, and the ability to represent their experiences on the panel
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Reasonable literacy, reviewing and IT skills
  • Able to respect others' differences and choices

Additional:

  • Applicants should have a recent experience of cancer( within the last 5 years) or have cared with someone affected by cancer in that timeframe.
  • Training is provided
  • Days/time required:flexible
