Volunteer Gardener-Downhill Demesne and Hezlett House

If you love gardens as much as we do then you’ll know they need a lot of care and attention. Volunteer gardeners do practical work to help keep Downhill Demesne and Hezlett House in peak condition and looking eye catching.

By getting involved, you could:

  • Make new friends
  • Join an enthusiastic and varied team
  • Enjoy the great outdoors
  • Use your gardening experience and gain more
  • Learn the history of Downhill Demesne and Hezlett House

Role Description:

  • Helping the gardening team to keep the gardens looking their best
  • Looking after garden machinery and equipment
  • Engaging with visitors
  • Helping with projects e.g. new planting
  • Making sure everything runs smoothly and safely

Skills required:

  • Keen to work in a team
  • Happy to work outside in all weathers
  • Interested in gardening
  • Willing to get stuck into anything on a busy day, even when the weather’s not on your side


  • All equipment necessary will be provided
  • Travel costs will be covered
