Book Shop Assistant-Hezlett House

Are you a real book worm? Do you love putting all the books in the right category? As a Volunteer Bookshop Assistant you will be using your love of books and meeting people to organise the sorting of the second hand stock, pricing, engaging with visitors and so much more!

 What’s involved?

  • Helping with the efficient running of Hezlett’s second-hand bookshop.
  • Making a real difference, by taking responsibility for running the bookshop on your shift.
  • Providing a welcome for every visitor and ensuring a high level of customer service.

Volunteer Role Description:

  • Giving advice and information to visitors on stock and stock layout. Selling stock to visitors.
  • Observing all prescribed financial systems and procedures.
  • Helping to ensure the bookshop is clean, tidy and well-presented at all times.
  • Helping to sort, price and display donations of stock when required.
  • Helping to maintain the security of stock within the bookshop.
  • Cash handling and cashing up, with support from the Retail team.
  • Dealing with general enquiries from visitors.
  • There might occasionally be some other activities that are of interest to you, that we could use your help with.

This role will suit you if you are…

  • Interested in books and have a friendly manner.
  • Good at relating well to all types of people.
  • Approachable, with excellent customer service skills.
  • Confident working alone and as part of a team.
  • Numerate, and accurate in cash handling.
  • Keen to act as an ambassador for the National Trust.

Extra information:

  • All equipment necessary will be provided.
  • Uniform provided (subject to availability).
  • Reimbursement of out-of-pocket travel costs between home and volunteering location (up to 40 miles per day), in accordance with National Trust policy and agreed with the National Trust manager.
