Volunteer Tour Guide (National Trust)

National Trust- Hezlett House

Volunteer Tour Guide

Hezlett House is a 17th Century thatched cottage near Castlerock. It is one of Northern Ireland's oldest surviving buildings.

If you're as passionate about places as we are, you'll know what it feels like to want to share that.  Our Volunteer Tour Guides tell true stories that can make people laugh  or gasp or think differently about what makes Hezlett House special.

 By getting involved, you could…

  •  Get to know Hezlett House better, and share your knowledge with visitors
  •  Let your personality shine, and put your communication skills into action leading great tours
  •  Join a varied and enthusiastic team and make new friends
  •  Enjoy new experiences and learn something new every day
  •  Hear people laugh, knowing you made it happen

What’s involved?

  • Researching and creating really engaging tours about the property and its history – you might have thought of something completely new.
  • Leading groups around the property and thinking about the needs of your audience, including disabled people and families
  • Telling stories and anecdotes that people will remember, and answering any questions
  • Keeping an eye on the time, so more people get to enjoy a tour
  • You are important in making sure things run as smoothly and safely as possible – this includes getting to know health and safety and evacuation procedures
  • There might occasionally be some other activities that are of interest to you, that we could use your help with.

This role will suit you if you are…

  • Passionate about Hezlett House, its history and people.
  • Confident in telling gripping stories that inspire visitors of all ages
  • Good at remembering facts and details – you don’t need to be Simon Schama but you’ll pick up information to inspire people with each tour you do
  • Organised and able to manage your time
  • Available at least once a fortnight
