 The Base Learning Disability Support Worker

Rationale for role: To support the paid staff at a community facility in promoting independent living skills for adults with a learning disability within a fun and relaxed environment

Volunteer’s area of responsibility: To support The Base Co-Ordinator with the activities held in The Base and the local community eg the leisure centre


  • To communicate with clients
  • To support staff during activities
  • To support the setting up of activities and clearing up afterwards
  • To support and accompany clients on short outings as directed by staff

Days/Times Required:  Available for 1-2 hours over the period of a week (Monday to Friday)

Location:The Base facilities currently in Antrim, Ballycastle, Ballyclare, Ballymena, Ballymoney, Carrickfergus, Coleraine, Cookstown, Magherafelt and Newtonabbey 

Skills required:

  • Good communication skills
  •  Prompt and reliable
  •  Comfortable in group settings
  •  Trustworthy and Friendly
  •  Genuine interest in a variety of activities such as arts and crafts, music, cooking, physical activity.


  •  NHSCT Volunteer Induction
  •  Induction relevant to the facility where the volunteering activity occurs
  • Awareness sessions relevant to the volunteering role eg Epilepsy
  •  Vulnerable Adults Awareness Session
