Volunteer Support Worker

The Base at Ballymena, run by Compass Advocacy Network, is a drop in centre for adults with learning disabilities who live locally. The Base provides opportunities to meet and develop friendships and provides support and connections to participate in community-based leisure activities – such as: shopping trips, 10-pin bowling, cycling outings, walking groups, cinema outings, computer access and training and arts and crafts. The Base projects give people independence and choice as the individuals themselves choose activities and engage in fund-raising activities to support these.

Role Description:

  • Supporting adults to socialise and access local community project
  • To promote independence and build friendships
  • Learn new skills and support adults with cooking, art and using the gym etc.

Desirable Skills :

  • Caring and patient individual
  • Enthusiastic to learn new skills
  • Willing to help adults learn new skills
  • Bring a skill to the Base like cooking, art etc.


  • Must be over 18 years old
  • Training is provided
