PREP Group Volunteer

Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke mission is to prevent chest, heart and stroke illnesses in Northern Ireland and care for those already affected by them.

The NICHS Post Rehabilitation Enablement Programme (PREP) is a community based patient education and physical activity support service for people who have had a stroke. The emphasis is supporting people and it helps rebuild people's lives and confidence, through exercise and education, to ensure they are ready to begin to take control of their life and self manage their own heal

Over a period of 6 weeks, participants are shown how to incorporate exercise safely into their care plans and every day routines, as well as having an opportunity to learn about a particular aspect of living with stroke.

Role Description:

  • Your role will be to assist the co-ordinator with the Post Rehabilitation Exercise Programme
  • Tasks Setting up of equipment
  • Assist clients with light exercise, in a motivational role
  • Help with moving around the room
  • Assist with activities
  • Prepare and serve refreshments

Desirable skills:

  • Volunteers must have a reasonable level of fitness and mobility to assist the clients with the exercises
  • Must have the ability to concentrate, take direction and carry out instructions
  • Have good communication and people skills
  • Be willing to work as part of a team but also have the ability to work on own initiative


  • Time: Tuesday 10am to 12 noon
  • Location: Coleraine Sandel Centre
