Drop in Volunteer

Solas  is a charity established in 2011, by members of the local community who were concerned about the rising rate of suicide in the Moyle area.

The founding volunteers have worked tirelessly to create a supportive and caring organisation, reaching out to support the health and wellbeing of everyone within the local community.

Role Description:

To provide a welcoming  presence for people visiting Solas during a drop in session. This role offers volunteers the opportunity to meet and engage with people arriving at the centre, offering a friendly ear, a coffee and a chat or simply the space and time to relax in our homely kitchen

Key areas of responsibility:

  • To offer tea and coffee and a chat to anyone attending the drop in session
  • To offer support if appropriate
  • To inform visitors of the programmes available and the benefits of the different types of support
  • To develop new opportunities or resources for the drop in area

Skills required:

  • Good communication skills
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Comfortable meeting new people
  • Warm and welcoming manner
  • Agree with the ethos of our organisation
  • Comfortable working under minimal supervision
  • Trustworthy

In house training offered to support this role:

  • Volunteer induction
  • Outline of current office systems
  • Awareness sessions relevant to volunteer role
  • Client base awareness session
