Helpline Volunteers

Hourglass is a UK wide charity, and our unique confidential Helpline Elder Abuse Response has been successfully operating for over 20 years. The charity has now expanded and has a working base in Northern Ireland and we need your help to develop our Helpline presence.

Our helpline provides free, confidential information, advice and support to victims of elder abuse, as well as others who are concerned about or have witnessed abuse, neglect or financial exploitation. Every year over 500,000 older people across the UK experience abuse. By giving the gift of time as a Helpline Volunteer, you can make a real difference in an older person’s life.

Role Description:

We are looking for volunteers who will take calls from home. Each helpline shift will be 4 hours in duration on one day per week/fortnight between Monday and Friday 9am to 5pm.

Skills required:

  • You enjoy working with older people
  • You have excellent communication skills
  • You can build a rapport with older people, and /or people in distress
  • You can provide empathy, advice, support or just be someone who can listen
  • You are willing to undertake detailed training to give you the relevant knowledge and skills to deal with helpline call.
  • You are age 18 or over
