Bereavement Volunteer for Telephone Support (Cruse)

Role description

  • Provide bereavement support to clients across Northern Ireland through telephone support
  • Promote the work of Cruse including the national helpline and local support services

Skills and Experience

  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Good organisational skills
  • Personable and friendly mannet
  • A good level of computer literacy or willingness to learn
  • Access to computer/laptop or smart phone


Wok will be carried out remotely so you can work from a quiet space in your own home.  You will need good internet connection for training and support work. You will receive face to face training and do face to face work when this becomes possible again.

Training is provided via zoom and consists of 4 mini modules

  • grief and loss
  • assessment and triage and support skills including traumatic grief
  • telephone s upport
  • safeguarding

As part of your ongoing learning and continued professional development you will also need to attend 15 hours of ongoing training per year.  Training modules are being adapted to be delivered online and we also have a range of e-leaning courses available.

Induction and Supervision

When you have passed the course you will receive a full induction to the Northern Ireland area.  You will also attend monthly supervision with a dedicted supervisor either via telephone or zoom.

Client Service

You will provide telephone to 1or 2 cleints per week.  Each block of sissions lasts 6 weeks.

Due to the sensitive nature of our work yo will need to adhere to all of our standards and policies specifically safeguarding confidentiality and GDPR.  You will need an enhanced Access NI check which will be carried out free of charge. 


Out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.
