Volunteer Coach, Secondary School (IM HAPPY)



The IM HAPPY project (IMproving Hopes, Aspirations, Prospects and Potential in the Youth) seeks to promote achievement in students aged 9 and over in the Neighbourhood Renewal (NR) areas of Coleraine. The team currently teaches free ICT courses in the following regions of Coleraine: Westbann, Ballysally and Millburn. We currently work in four local primary schools, three secondary schools and three community centres and are seeking coaches to assist us in our primary school sessions.

Purpose of the job:

To support the IM HAPPY staff with the delivery of courses in Robotics, App development, Creative Computing and Raspberry Pi in Secondary schools (North Coast Integrated College, Coleraine College and St. Josephs).

Roles: Working with different groups of secondary school children with the aim to enhance their learning. Packing and setting up of equipment.

Commitment/Hours: 2.5 hours per session 1-3 times per week.

What will you gain from volunteering?

You will have the opportunity to work with a range of students aged between 11-18 by helping to learn about web development, application development and robotics. This will help to boost your time management, organisational, communication and interpersonal skills. This will also allow you to learn how to use new pieces of technology (e.g. Lego Mindstorms, MIT App Inventor etc). You will also receive a certificate of completion for each module. Requirements: Completion of six of our modules. This will include two coaching modules.
