Parkrun Volunteer
Location: Christie Park, Coleraine
Time: Saturdays, 9:30am (flexible – volunteer as often as you wish)
Age: Suitable for adults and young people (under 18s accompanied by an adult)
Role Purpose
Parkrun is a free, weekly, timed 5k run/jog/walk open to all ages and abilities. Volunteers are essential to ensuring the event runs safely, smoothly, and with the friendly community spirit parkrun is known for. This role supports the organisation, delivery, and enjoyment of Coleraine Christie Park, Parkrun.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteers can choose from a wide range of roles depending on their interests and confidence:
- Timekeeping – using a simple digital app to record finishing times
- Barcode Scanning – scanning participant barcodes using a phone app
- Marshal – guiding participants, offering encouragement, ensuring safety, and helping manage the finish funnel
- Tail Walker – walking the course behind the last participant to ensure everyone finishes safely
- Run Director – overseeing the event, giving the briefing, coordinating volunteers, and ensuring safety procedures
- Volunteer Coordinator (from home) – organising the weekly volunteer roster
- Results Processor (from home) – uploading results after the event
- Report Writer (from home) – writing short event summaries for social media or the parkrun website
Volunteers can switch roles weekly and try different tasks as they gain confidence.
Skills & Qualities Needed
You do not need running experience — just enthusiasm and reliability. Helpful qualities include:
- Friendly, welcoming, and community?minded
- Able to follow simple instructions
- Comfortable using a smartphone (for digital roles)
- Good communication skills
- Willing to work as part of a supportive volunteer team
Training and guidance are provided for every role.

Time Commitment
Parkrun takes place every Saturday at 9:30am.

Additional Information
- All roles are fully supported by the Run Director and volunteer team
- Under?18 volunteers are welcome but must be accompanied by a responsible adult
- No specialist equipment is required — just comfortable outdoor clothing
