Age Concern Causeway – Dementia Café Volunteer

Location: Methodist Church Welcome Centre, Queens Street, Coleraine
Day: Wednesdays
Time: 2:30pm – 4:00pm (1 day per week)

About the Dementia Café

Our Dementia Café is a warm, welcoming space where people living with dementia and their carers can relax, chat, and enjoy gentle activities together. It’s a friendly weekly gathering that helps reduce isolation, build connection, and offer meaningful support to local families.

Role Purpose

We’re looking for a kind, patient, and reliable volunteer to help create a positive, inclusive atmosphere for everyone who attends.

What You’ll Do

  • Welcome guests as they arrive and help them feel at ease
  • Serve tea, coffee, and light refreshments
  • Support simple activities such as crafts, games, or conversation prompts
  • Chat with participants and offer companionship
  • Help maintain a calm, respectful, and friendly environment
  • Assist staff with light set?up and tidy?up as needed

Skills & Qualities

No previous experience is required, just:

  • Empathy and patience
  • A friendly, approachable manner
  • Willingness to support people living with dementia
  • Reliability and good communication
  • Respect for confidentiality and personal dignity

Additional Information

  • Volunteers must be aged 16+
