Could you spread awareness of our services to your local community? Are you a people person and are passionate about helping others? Do you have 8 hours to spare each month to support and champion Epilepsy Action in your local area?

This is the role for you!

Our Community Champions are at the heart of helping us to create a world without limits for people with epilepsy. They offer support and visibility at a local level, from fundraising to awareness raising and will help us achieve these goals. The Community Champion Volunteers in Northern Ireland have three main roles:

  • Helping to raise awareness about Epilepsy Action's work to make a difference for people living with epilepsy

  • Supporting our fundraising team and ultimately helping to raise funds for the charity's work

  • Actively engaging and building networks with local groups and associations in Northern Ireland

There will be flexibility so you can decide how you want to support and champion Epilepsy Action to really make a difference at the heart of your community!

Over time as we grow our Community Champion network there will be more opportunities to get involved and encourage others to organise a wider variety of activities and fundraising in your community. We'd love to hear your ideas too!

You'll be joining our vibrant volunteer community and will be fully support by our dedicated Volunteer Team.

Why we want you

Our Community Champions are at the heart of helping us to create a world without limits for people with epilepsy. Our Community Champions offer support and visibility at a local level and are involved with the work we do, from fundraising to awareness raising.

We want as many people as possible to know what epilepsy is and what we are doing at Epilepsy Action to help support people living with epilepsy. Our Community Champions are central to achieving this. You’ll be on hand in your local community to offer support, raise awareness and encourage people in your community to fundraise. There’s flexibility so you can decide how you want to support and champion Epilepsy Action within your community. You’ll bring your expertise and local knowledge to the role and really make a difference at the heart of your community.

The time commitment needed for this role will vary depending on the time that you have to give, the time of year and number of groups and associations actively supporting Epilepsy Action within your local area.

What you will be doing

  • Actively engaging and building relationships with local community groups and associations
  • Raising awareness about the work that Epilepsy Action do, the services that we offer and how people can find the right suppport for them
  • Attending events and cheque collections, visiting schools and local community hubs to share resources, information and insight into Epilepsy Action's work and strategy
  • Speaking in public about your own experiences with epilepsy
  • Encouraging and inspiring people within your local community to get involved with fundraising activities and that work that Epilepsy Action do
  • Acting as a lead volunteer at local Epilepsy Action events like collections and cheer points, and co-ordinating other volunteers on the day

The skills you need

  • Enthusiastic, can-do attitude
  • Confidence and willingness to speak in public and to be able to share your own story as well as signposting to Epilepsy Action's services, information and support
  • Ability to network and make connections in your local community
  • Flexibility to offer support when opportunities are available
  • Outgoing personality who likes meeting new people
  • Confidence using technology including social media platforms and Microsoft packages

Disclaimer

Role-specific training will be provided throughout your volunteering with us. This will include some e-learning from home using our online induction. Out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed in line with Epilepsy Action’s volunteer experiences policy.
