Throughout Northern IrelandCommunity Volunteer – Northern Ireland
Where you’ll volunteer
Across all areas of Northern Ireland:
BHSCT • NHSCT • SEHSCT • SHSCT • WHSCT
Facetoface activities take place in community venues. Online presentations can be delivered from home.
When
Flexible and ongoing – daytime or evening, depending on your availability.
You must be aged 18 or over.
What You’ll Be Doing
Our Community Volunteers play a key role in helping us create a world where people who are deaf, have hearing loss or experience tinnitus can fully participate in everyday life. This is a flexible role with no fixed time commitment, ideal for anyone who wants to make a meaningful difference in their local community.
You’ll support us through two main activities:
1. Presenting and Giving Information
You’ll deliver engaging talks and presentations—either in person or online—to community groups and organisations.
Through these sessions, you will help to:
- Raise awareness of deafness, hearing loss and tinnitus
- Share information about the support and services available
- Introduce people to RNID’s work and how they can get involved
2. Helping People Check Their Hearing
You’ll visit community groups to support individuals to take the RNID online hearing check.
Using a laptop or tablet provided by the group, you’ll guide people through the simple steps.
Each check takes around 10–15 minutes and helps identify whether someone’s hearing is within the normal range or if they may have hearing loss.
Why Volunteer with RNID?
- Flexible involvement – volunteer on an ad?hoc basis that fits around your life
- Full training and support – including induction, volunteer handbook and a dedicated supervisor
- Be part of a community – meet like?minded volunteers across Northern Ireland
- Make a real difference – over 18 million people in the UK are deaf or have hearing loss; your support helps ensure they receive vital information and guidance
Safeguarding & Recruitment
RNID is committed to safeguarding.
Applicants successful at interview will be asked to disclose any unspent convictions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (amended 2013).
A conviction will not necessarily prevent someone from volunteering; each case is considered individually.
