Summer Volunteer Role Description — Corrymeela 2025

Overview

Corrymeela’s Summer Volunteers play a vital role in welcoming groups to our Ballycastle Centre and supporting the rhythms of hospitality and community life. Volunteers help create a space where people feel safe, valued, and inspired to explore how we live well together.

This is a seasonal opportunity for people who want to contribute meaningfully, learn new skills, and be part of a peacebuilding community.

Key Responsibilities

Hospitality Support

  • Welcome groups on arrival
  • Set up refreshment stations (tea, coffee, fruit, biscuits)
  • Assist with mealtimes: setup, serving, clearing, and resetting
  • Support post-residential clean-up (hoovering, tidying, resetting spaces)

Community Engagement

  • Participate in group preparation and debrief meetings
  • Contribute to shared life at the Centre
  • Join in worship or reflection at the Croí (optional but encouraged)
  • Engage with staff, other volunteers, and guests respectfully

Health & Safety

  • Support general safety and wellbeing on site

Weekly Structure

  • Summer Volunteer shift will be set around volunteer availability
  • Schedule varies depending on group needs

Who You’ll Work With

  • Ballycastle Centre staff
  • Horizons volunteers
  • Visiting groups (youth, schools, universities, community organisations)
  • Volunteer Manager (your main point of contact and support)
