Whatever you enjoy doing, and however much time you can commit, there's a volunteer role for you.
If you are under 18, you can get involved with one of our youth programmes. This will give you the opportunity to learn first aid alongside other important life skills. Please note: we are unable to support work experience at this point in time.

FIRST AIDER
Be part of a team that saves lives. As a first aider, you'll deliver care to people in need at public events in your community

PROFESSIONAL CLINICAL ROLES
Nurses, doctors and paramedics play a vital role for us at larger events. Clinical leaders support the professional development of our first aiders and help us keep our standards high

WORKING WITH YOUNG PEOPLE
Can you inspire the next generation of life savers? As a youth leader, you'll encourage and inspire young people from all walks of life to develop their potential

SUPPORT ROLES
We're also looking for volunteers who can lend their expertise to roles such as safeguarding, human resources, quality assurance, fundraising and communications, and health and safety.
What you'll get in return
Volunteering is a fantastic way to enhance your CV, meet new people and connect with your community. Volunteer with us, and we'll teach you first aid (whatever role you've signed up to), and provide you with equipment and uniform if required. We'll make sure that you get all the training and support you need to excel in your role.

As an event first aider, you'll provide first aid care to people in need at public events. This volunteer role can see you at professional football matches, theatres, music festivals and big sporting events such as the Belfast Marathon.
You don't need previous first aid experience to become a first aider – we'll give you all the training you need.
If you've got good communication skills and want to help people in your community, we'd love to have you on our team.
'I didn't have any first aid training before I signed up as a volunteer. I actually hate the sight of blood! But when someone's in need, all the things you usually worry about don't seem to matter. Being a St John Ambulance volunteer gives me a reason to reach out to others. When you give something of yourself, you get a lot in return.'

Advanced first aider - advanced first aiders can act as clinical supervisors and mentors to first aiders. As an advanced first aider, you’ll receive extended training in first aid skills for events. |

Cycle responders - an advanced first aider has the opportunity to train to become a cycle responder. If you enjoy cycling and can work independently, this is the role for you! At large events, cycle responders are essential in ensuring people in need receive first aid quickly. |

Advanced first aider level, or a higher clinical qualification. |

Ambulance care assistant - an advanced first aider has the opportunity to become an ambulance care assistant and transfer non-urgent patients in our fleet of ambulances from home to arranged hospital appointments, hospital to hospital and/or hospital to home. |
4 events per month, mainly evenings and weekends |
Experience at advanced first aider level. |

Emergency ambulance crew - crew our fleet of emergency, front line ambulances at events such as concerts, sports events and marathons. These volunteers are trained to high standards in emergency ambulance aid. |
